Data compilation provides the first stage in the quality assurance process and should be performed by the system manager in collaboration with data collectors. This stage enables the system manager to monitor progress and assess how up-to-date the data is.

To ensure systematic compilation of data, the system manager should:

• Oversee and support data collectors so they are clear as to their function and responsibility
• Ensure the timely receipt and compilation of data from the different sites
• Ensure that regular data audits/cross-checking exercises are carried out (e.g. bi-annually) with the involvement of all data collectors
